Quick Navigation

Saddle Tree Styles Available

There are six different trees that are used to make all the different models of the Evolutionary Saddle. Each tree has been specifically designed to carry the System X panels so that they have the maximum range of motion under the tree.

In these pictures you can see the differences between the trees and how they compare to each other. The ground seats are made to provide a deep seat base. Then we add the different types of foam depending on the seat desired by the our clients. This is where we can adjust the rise, twist, waist and cushion for the rider. Helping the rider have their most comfortable ride, so they can keep up with their comfortable horse. All to often riders sacrifice their own comfort for the sake of a saddle that fits their horse. Not always realizing that the fit of the saddle for the horse is only half the equation. If the rider is unable to sit balanced and centered comfortably then the saddle that fit while the horse was standing could develop points of pressure because of the way the saddle fits the rider.

So, when picking a tree and style you can be assured that the seat will be built to help you ride as comfortably balanced as you can.

The nicely padded soft-seat is made from upholstery and neoprene foams, hand skived and shaped to an the correct shape for you with no stitching lines that could cause discomfort. This saddle is suitable for all breeds and types of horses and mules.

The Caliente saddle is versatile enough to fit various back shapes, including long and short, dippy and straight. Its narrow to moderate twist provides a comfortable ride for hours on end, without causing fatigue in the knees and hips.

The fenders on this saddle offer easy and free-flowing movement, reducing the risk of legs and feet falling asleep. As for security, the Caliente provides a next-to and a down-on the horse secure seat, thanks to its ultra-thin tree and advanced panel design. The horn is another added bonus, perfect for ponying young stock along, yet low enough to avoid accidental impalement.

In summary, the only difference between the Caliente and the Liberty saddle is the front thigh blocking.

The McClellan Battery

A Modern Version of the McClellan Battery Saddle Used in the US Civil War

The McClellan saddle was a popular choice for horse-drawn artillery units during the US Civil War. A modern replica of the original saddle is still in use today by an active unit located in New Ulm, MN. Developed in the 1800s for men who were on average 5.5 to 5.7 feet tall and weighed between 116 and 123 pounds, the original saddle was designed for horses with narrow, razor-like withers similar to those of today’s thoroughbred track horses.

However, the narrow design of the original saddle could cause discomfort and pain for horses, affecting their performance. The modern version of the McClellan Battery saddle has two critical differences from the original. Firstly, it offers excellent comfort for riders, and secondly, it eliminates pressure points that can cause discomfort for horses.

The seat of the modern saddle features a wide dish that provides comfort during extended rides at any gait. Additionally, the slightly narrowed rise helps keep riders in the seat for all-day comfort. The stirrup straps are adjustable, providing extra security during fast stops. The ability to tie gear both front and rear makes the modern McClellan Battery saddle a legendary choice for riders.

Overall, the modern version of the McClellan Battery saddle is a comfortable and practical option for riders looking for a reliable and comfortable saddle for extended rides.
